I'm going to keep this plain and simple.........do not share your ideas with anyone! Until you have them locked, stocked, and trademarked, keep your lips zipped. It's pretty sad that people do not respect originality and scheme to make a statement with your statements. Thieves!!!!!!!!  Today I learned a great lesson.

This should be self explanatory...a given.....top of mind....and can even be considered business 101. I can take it far enough to say that if there was a book called Marketing for Dummies, this small little suggestion would be on page one.


I'm ashamed to even have to say this. Please don't take this the wrong way because I know that the few people who are even interested in my blog are intelligent and business savvy. The care about their business reputation and are looking on ways to improve on the great things that they already have going on.

The Theory of More

It's become a constant phrase in marketing... Cut the clutter....less is more...... Well, I'm here to tell you that there are times when less is more but most of the time MORE is MORE! It depends what you are speaking of. of course when it comes to media, we don't want to hear back to back commericials, PSA's, consistant talking, and a bunch of Blah Blah Blah from air personalities. (Talk radio aside) We are listening for music and doggone it we want to hear what we want to hear. In this case Less talking is more but More music is more.

Put it this way........ give the people less of what you want and more of what they want and you will acquire more customers, clients, listeners, etc. Simply put.......IT"S NOT ABOUT YOU!!! I beg of you. Stop going into meetings with your theme music playing in all of your smug glory talking about who you are and how great you do what you do. Stop the press! Where does the potential customers needs come in during this 30 minute monologue? Do your research. If you must "shine"....do so with them in mind. (rhymes heehee)

Self Promotion People!

So... I raise my glass to the many entrepreneurs who are starting out and using social media to do it. KUDOS TO YOU! However, a little tip to the ones who are really trying to be taken seriously: Separate your personal page from your business persona.

Am I really going to patronize an event planner who can't spell, uses reckless language, and hates his Momma? I don't need to know all of your beeswax! Make an effort to project a level of professionalism. Don't get me wrong, I have been know to say a few quirky comments and deliver a few gut punches out into the abyss that we now call the internet. The fact is that we all have to continue to be individuals. After all, that's what makes us the perfectly imperfect people that we are.

Be smart about it. there's a thin line between business and personal. But a line none the less. Keep it cute!!!

Your right hand doesn't need to know that your left hand is constantly flipping the bird. Instead, let it imagine and assume that it's waiting to join the right hand.....(oh joy)  holding hands on a peaceful stroll with the one you love.
